Ruud Guilt, an honorable character of Dutch descent, is currently a soccer manager and former player. Guilt, born in the Netherlands in 1962, played professionally in the 1980’s and 1990’s as a forward and midfielder. His youth career consisted of two prestigious club teams before he debuted professionally with HFC Haarlem in 1979 and concluded his professional career with Chelsea in 1998. Guilt also competed for the U-21 Netherlands national team and for the regular Netherlands national team, as well, until 1994. Known for sporting his dread locks, Guilt was easily recognizable on the playing field and was named the European Footballer of the Year in 1987 and World Soccer Player of the Year in 1987 and 1989. After retiring as a player, he was honorable named one of the Top 125 greatest living footballers in FIFA’s 100th anniversary celebration. With a passion for the sport so strong that retirement could not keep him away, Guilt went on to manage several teams. He first went back to manage Chelsea and also shared his wisdom, experience and talent while managing Newcastle United, Feyenoord, andLos Angeles Galaxyover the post-retirement years. Guilt currently manages Terek Grozny and is widely considered one of the most respected European football players of his time, both as a player and manager.
